6.X.X Clients Not Supported After 10/31/2007

2007.10.04 — 15:25 CDT

If you are currently using Lotus Notes version 6.x.x on any computer, you must upgrade your Lotus Notes 6.x.x client(s) to version 7.0.2 to avoid service interruption.  This is a required upgrade.  It is imperative this upgrade happens as quickly as possible.

Mac OS 10.3.x and earlier users must upgrade to Mac Lotus Notes version 6.5.5.  Mac Lotus Notes version 7.0.2 is only supported on Mac OS 10.4.x and newer.

After October 31, 2007, UNL Lotus Notes servers will no longer accept connections from version 6.x.x clients.  This means all Lotus Notes 6.x.x clients will not be able to send nor receive e-mail.  Mac 6.5.5 clients on Mac OS 10.3.x and earlier will still work.

For assistance upgrading Lotus Notes, please contact your departmental computer support person or call the UNL Information Services Computer Help Center at 472-3970 or toll-free at (866) 472-3970.  You may also visit http://notes.unl.edu/newnotes2/installation.shtml to read instructions on performing this upgrade.

Lotus Notes 7.0.2 is available for download from http://notes.unl.edu/newnotes2/installation.shtml.  You may also obtain a copy of Lotus Notes 7.0.2 from the IS Computer Help Center located in the 501 Building.

Internet Explorer 7 and Web Access Problems

There are known issues using IE7 and Lotus Notes Domino Web Access. If you experience problems using IE7, please downgrade or install the newest version of Firefox. Here is the IBM tech note regarding this problem.

Lotus Notes Cluster

The Unlnotes01, Unlnotes02 and Unlnotes03 servers are now in a cluster.

What does this mean to you?
If you are using a Lotus Notes 6x client your mail file should automatically switch over to the fail over server in the event of a Lotus Notes server outage. If you Lotus Notes client does not fail over, close your client and re-open it.

POP3 and IMAP
In the event of a Lotus Notes server outage, your email account will not switch over to the fail over Lotus Notes server. If you are using POP3 or IMAP, please install the Lotus Notes full client to access your mailfile or access your account via the web, by choosing the correct server in the navigation column on the left.

Attachment Restriction

There is now a 250 MB attachment limit on Lotus Notes. We found that large attachments over 250 MB were being sent through our E-mail system causing performance problems. If you feel that the limit has caused you any problems, please call the Help Desk at 472-3970.
