Setting Up Sametime Instant Messaging
What is Sametime?
Sametime Instant Messaging is a built-in feature in Lotus Notes that allows you to connect instantly with others that are also online.
Setting Up Sametime
In Notes, go to File, Preferences, Location Preferences. Click on the Servers tab and add unlintime.unl.edu to the
Instant Messaging field.

Next, click on the Instant Messaging tab and make sure that the settings match the picture below.

You will have to restart Notes for the changes to take place. When you open Notes again, you should be asked to sign on to Sametime after you type in
your Full client password. You can check the box to save the password so that it will automatically log you on from then on.
You should now see a couple of new icons in your full client shown in the next picture.

Chat button
The first button on the toolbar allows you to directly connect with someone that is listed in the University Addressbook. Note: They must
also be using Sametime for this to work. Click the button, and enter in the person's name or part of their name and press enter. The window
will expand to show names that are similar. Choose the correct one from the list to start chatting.

Start Instant Chat Meeting button
The second button allows you to instantly connect to multiple people at the same time, similar to a conference call. To initiate the meeting, click the button on the toolbar.
You can then enter a Topic and Message for the meeting. Click the Add Invitees button and you will get a window just like in the first example where you add the
names of the people you want to join.

Add to Instant Contact List button
This button allows you add names to your contact list so that you don't have to retype them every time you want to chat with someone.
Click the button and you will get a window like you saw before that allows you to search the UNL Addressbook for names. The only difference is,
that this time you won't connect with them, only add them to your contact list. You also have the option of organizingthe names into groups if necessary.
Show/Hide Instant Contact List button
Use this button to Show and Hide your contact list which shows all of the users you have added. You will notice that people that are online will have a green square
next their name, yellow diamond
if set to away, and nothing if they are disconnected. You should also notice that in your Inbox, you will have the same status indicators that will
show up next to emails from anyone in your contact list.
